Oobah Butler has spent the past ten years developing a unique film-making style that weds gonzo journalism and comedy.
After discovering the world’s biggest travel website TripAdvisor may not be completely legitimate, he spent six months transforming his garden shed into the platform’s #1 restaurant, dominating world news and attracting over 100 million views upon releasing a now award-winning documentary about it. When struggling Zambian denim designer Georgio Peviani came into his life, Oobah adopted a persona and made headlines with his $20 jeans at Paris Fashion Week. In 2019, he released a Los Angeles Times and #1 USA Today best-selling book about his endeavours, being hailed by as “a genre of one - a true artist” by The Guardian and The Rest Is Entertainment's Marina Hyde. These absurdities make up some of the subjects of the series he wrote, produced and hosted for VICE, Life Hacks With Oobah Butler.
In October 2023, he created, wrote, executive produced and starred in the documentary special, THE GREAT AMAZON HEIST, which was produced by Abso Lutely Productions (NATHAN FOR YOU, ERIC ANDRE SHOW) and Zandland. It debuted on Channel 4 in the UK. The film was hugely successful for the network and had an incredible social impact - reaching over 2 billion people through online, print & TV media.
Following this success, Channel 4 commissioned two additional documentary specials starring Oobah: HOW I MADE A MILLION IN 90 DAYS and HOW TO TRICK YOUR WAY ONTO THE PROPERTY LADDER. For the former, Oobah won the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival Award for Best Presenter - Factual.
Before, he was the host for CATFISH UK on MTV for three seasons and won Best Male Personality at the National Reality TV Awards 2023. Oobah also has a finished, yet-to-be-released doc feature directed by Chris Smith (TIGER KING, 100 FOOT WAVE), and is currently in post-production for a series with a major streamer that is being produced by A24, Central Group and Abso Lutley Productions.
